Buy Your Japan Train Pass And Makan At This Cafe
Multi-concept stores in Singapore are no stranger to us. But what about a café that features a ticketing counter and retail shopping? We say it’s one of a kind. (A version of this story first appeared in Issue 1370, Jan 16, 2017.)
Opened by Japanese train operator East Japan Railway (JR East), this cafe within the gleaming new Tanjong Pagar Centre is where you can buy your Japan rail passes for your upcoming holiday, and fill your tummy.
Kaisen Avocado Don
Other than burgers and sandwiches, there are Japanese bites like the Kaisen Avocado Don ($18), loaded with salmon sashimi, Hokkaido scallops and avocado.
Knick-knack section at Japan Rail Café
After your meal, scoot over to the retail section, designed to look like a knick-knack shop commonly found at Japanese train stations. From now until Feb 3, you can buy seasonal Japanese snacks like cherry blossom jelly.
