Don’t be fooled by its name: popular Kembangan supper hotspot Seng Kee doesn’t sell just black chicken herbal soup. Take a look at its packed tables (back when the term “circuit breaker” was only used among electricians) and you’ll see that almost each one has bowls of its famous Herbal Mee Sua. The pork bone broth is kissed with Chinese herbs, and brims with smooth noodles, pork kidney, pork liver and sliced meat. This curry rice stall that occupies two shophouses at Jalan Besar is one of the OG curry rice shops established way back in the 1920s. Each plate is an exercise in sloppy deliciousness: rice, cabbage, pork chop, braised pork belly, fried prawn and egg slathered with starchy, slightly sweet curry. Adam Liaw, MasterChef Australia's Season 2 winner ate at the stall and snapped the above picture. "Beach Road Scissor Cut Curry Rice. Excellent Hainanese-style curry rice, ironically on Jalan Besar. This third-gen Cantonese zi char restaurant with its flagship eatery in Amoy Street (only the Outram and Greenwood outlets are open for the circuit breaker though) is famous for light, relatively wholesome MSG-free fish soup noodles and certain dishes like the very yummy, punchy har cheong gai. The eatery now offers islandwide delivery with its own pool of four cab drivers, bypassing the usual delivery apps. Charges range from $5 to $15, depending on your location. Cult fave colourful mee hoon kueh and ban mian stall Yue Lai Xiang Delights offers noodles dyed with natural ingredients like spinach juice and butterfly pea flower. The chewy noodles are served in a homey pork bone broth brewed with ikan bilis. The biz is run by a mother-daughter team. It’s not uncommon to see a line of customers waiting to get their hands on the “Singapore-style ramen" from this Michelin Bib Gourmand award-winning stall at Amoy Street Food Centre. Each bowl is served with springy noodles, a marinated ramen egg, wantons, braised pork belly, and deep-fried prawns wrapped with potato strips. Order one day in advance here. Delivery is charged at a flat rate of $6 for addresses less than 6km from the stall and $12 for distances of more than 6km. There is no minimum order.

We don’t miss the crowds at this Bib Gourmand zi char joint on Keong Saik Road, but we do miss Kok Sen’s umami, saucy Big Prawn Hor Fun, which you can now get delivered islandwide.
