When Carrie Wong Met The Navy’s Finest

She may look sea-riously hot here, but Carrie can’t swim to save her life. “You know, the first time I told myself to learn swimming was after watching that Ch 8 swimming show with Fiona Xie in it… The Champion! So I taught myself. I guess I can swim, but you can’t put me in a pool that’s deeper than my height,” she says.

Carrie thinks she’s “too rebellious” for a career in the armed forces. “But sometimes I’m curious to know what army life is like,” she says. “Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, I think that if the government says that girls have to serve NS as well, it won’t really be that bad an idea. But I think I’ll receive a lot of punishment in there (laughs).”

She has never dated a man in uniform. “I have a dream. And that’s to attend the Passing out Parade of a boyfriend or whatever. Or you know, an Officer’s Ball. I think it’s an honour to be able to attend such an event,” she says. If that isn’t a hint for NS boys harbouring a crush on Carrie to send her a POP invite, we don’t know what is.

The shoot was inspired by the same Navy-themed shoot Fann Wong did way back in 1993. (P.S. Carrie was born a year later in 1994.) It was Fann’s very first 8 Days cover and she would sail on to become one of Singapore’s biggest stars. The not-so-subtle point we’re trying to make: Is Carrie Wong the next Fann Wong?
