Casting Call: Who Should Play The Losers’ Club In ‘It’ Sequel?
Wonder who should play the grown-up versions of the teen characters in the It sequel? The teen actors have a few suggestions, and so do we.
Since its global premiere two weeks ago, It, the adaptation of Stephen King’s opus — about a group of small-town kids, aka The Losers’ Club, battling a demonic clown — has earned over US$370 million (S$498 mil). Naturally, a sequel — It: Chapter II — is already in the works, and will take place 27 years later (circa 2014), where the heroes return to their hometown to confront their old foe. Even though the teen actors won’t be back in the sequel (maybe in flashback sequences), they did, however, suggest, in an Entertainment Weekly interview, who should play grown-up versions of their characters. Bill Denbrough
In It, he’s played by: Jaeden Lieberher, 14
Lieberher’s choice to play the adult version of Bill Denbrough: Christian Bale
We pick: James Badge Dale
Why? Dale is best known for ‘killing’ Leonardo DiCaprio’ in The Departed. Besides being an amazing character actor (World War Z, Flight, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi), don’t you think Dale and Lieberher look alike? Bale’s past as a certain superhero may get in the way of him portraying the reluctant leader of The Losers’ Club.
Richie Tozier
In It, he’s played by: Finn Wolfhard, 14
Wolfhard’s choice to play the adult version of Richie Tozier: Bill Hader
We pick: Kyle Mooney
Why? Hader was once with Saturday Night Live while Mooney is a current member of the troupe. Sure, both Hader and Mooney can do funny and bittersweet, but Mooney is a more off-beat choice (see Brigsby Bear) as the future radio jock. Plus, it’s Mooney's specs that sold us.
Mike Hanlon
In It, he’s played by: Chosen Jacobs, 16
Jacobs’ choice to play the adult version of Mike Hanlon: Chadwick Boseman
Our choice: Jordan Peele
Why? Boseman is way too action-hero-y (he’s Black Panther, by the way) to play a town librarian. Peele, of Key & Peele and the director of Get Out, has more of a geeky persona. Also, he can do funny and drama (see Keanu). We can totally see Peele pushing a trolley of books down the corridor of an empty library.
Beverly March
In It, she’s played by: Sophia Lillis, 15
Lillis’ choice to play the adult version of Sophia Lillis: Jessica Chastain
Our choice: Bryce Dallas Howard
Why? Well, just in case Chastain isn’t available. Duh. Besides, Howard has fought dinosaurs in high heels, so taking on an evil clown in the sewers should be a piece of cake. And if Howard can’t do it? Give Molly Ringwald a call. Who better to play the Molly Ringwald of The Losers’ Club than Molly Ringwald herself?
Ben Banscom
In It, he’s played by: Jeremy Ray Taylor
Taylor’s choice to play the adult version of Ben Hanscom: Chris Pratt
Our choice: Patrick Wilson
Why? As much as we adore him, Pratt is too ‘superstar’ for the part (Hanscom is an architect in the future). Pretty much the same reason why we won’t cast Christian Bale in the movie. Besides, Wilson has experience in dealing with nefarious supernatural forces (see The Conjuring and Insidious).
Eddie Kaspbrak
In It, he’s played by: Jack Dylan Grazer, 14
Grazer’s choice to play the adult version of Eddie Kaspbrak: Jake Gyllenhaal
Our choice: Paul Rudd
Why? Well, why not him? In the future, Eddie runs a limousine company and is married to a domineering woman. Can you imagine Jake Gyllenhaal as a henpecked hubby? Also, we’re strongly believed that every movie is better off with Paul Rudd. It’s either him or Dwayne Johnson.
Stanley Uris
In It, he’s played by: Wyatt Oleff, 14
Oleff’s choice to play the adult version of Stanley Uris: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Our choice: Jesse Eisenberg
Why? Seriously, who does Oleff resemble the most? JGL or JE? Who would you buy as an accountant? We rest our case.
