What Do These Celeb Hashtags Mean?

“I must give credit to 8 DAYS for this hashtag! (Laughs) You guys coined it when we first started dating about four years ago. It’s very easy to remember, so we’ve adopted the hashtag for posts that we upload with my wife [Kate Pang] and my children in it. We like it so much that we’ve also used it as the name of our new YouTube channel Kandie Network. So thank you for the name, 8 DAYS! (Laughs)”

“I started this hashtag when I was in Europe three years ago, and I wanted to group all my photos in one place. The hashtag consists mainly of photos that I take, so you seldom see me in the pictures. You’ll see a lot of scenic shots but these days, I’m learning how to take nice human portraits. I usually upload more photos under #romeophotologue when I’m on a vacation as the snapshots are nicer. In a way, the hashtag also serves as my online portfolio where people can see my photography work. I also dabble in video editing now, so I’ve just started #romeovideologue too! “I started using this hashtag about five years ago. It was actually created by my fans (laughs). When I started in showbiz, my fans and other people in the media would say that I was different from the other newbies, and that my personality and style stood out. My fans started uploading my photos and used #wegoianstyle in their captions. It basically means: ‘We will do it the Ian Fang way’. These days, when I upload photos of myself with captions that describe what I’m feeling, I’d use the hashtag. When people see it, they immediately know it’s my hashtag. It’s become like a form of branding for me too.”

“#JayOnTheHay basically refers to me and my twin sister [Hayley Woo]. I’m Jay and she is Hay, and we came up with this hashtag about seven years ago (laughs). We really liked this YouTube girl group called RinOnTheRox and they’d sing cover tunes and were quite popular online. We enjoy singing as well, and we thought we’d name ourselves in a similar style. Nowadays, as long as I upload photos of the two of us, I’d use that hashtag. It’s also easier for us to look back on our memories on social media just by searching that hashtag!”

“My boss Michelle Chong came up with the Chinese hashtag #ShuaiTeng (which translates to 'Handsome Teng') because she felt that I needed a hashtag that was exclusive to me. At that time, she was also trying to encourage me to get toned and get abs. Now that I’ve lost some weight, she thinks that it’s a good idea to use the same name for my character in my new YouTube show Ethen By The Babes. These days, my artiste management company Left Profile uses that hashtag for all their posts with me in it, and people are starting to call me that when they see me on the street! (Laughs). I think I will start including it in my posts when I have my abs! (Guffaws)”

“I have many different hashtags — #sheilalovesherjob, #sheilalovesherlife, #sheilalovestoeat (guffaws). I use the different tags to categorise my photos online, but the first one that I started using was #sheilalovesherjob. It was when I switched from modelling to acting three years ago, and I felt very blessed to be in a job that I love. Not everyone can say the same thing. At the same time, I think it’s a very positive and empowering hashtag and it generates good vibes too. There are days when I don’t feel too good, and using that hashtag makes me feel much better as it serves as a reminder that I do love my job and my life (smiles).”
