This casual eatery's moniker is inspired by the Hokkien term “chapalang”, which means “random mixture of items.” Jiakpalang is set up by the former head chef of European restaurant Portico and serves rice bowls for lunch, and heartier mod zi char fare for dinner. Try the Sesame Sous Vide Chicken ($6.90) for lunch: sous vide chicken breast, black fungus and an onsen egg on brown rice. For vegetarians, there’s the Tempeh and Truffle Mushroom Rice ($7.90, pictured). It’s loaded with oyster mushrooms, fried tempeh chips, broccoli, an onsen egg and truffle oil. Dinner includes more sinful stuff like Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab ($12) served with tobiko (flying fish roe) and mantou.
